SDI ARCHITECTS PTE LTD is an Architectural practice in Singapore registered with the Board of Architects. From 2000 to 2023, we embarked on ISO with compliance in ISO 9001: 2008 and ISO 14001: 2015. Our staff are also trained in Universal Design, Greenmark and BCA Buildability Score and we are embarking on BIM.
Formed since 1997, Strategic Design International or SDI has a slew of projects both locally, in China and in the region. SDI became a LLP in 2008. With the passing of one of the partners in 2012, SDI is now a private limited company.
SDI has grown over the years and has successfully designed and delivered projects of varying complexity and scale. In 2010, we were honoured by URA’s Heritage Building Conservation award (Category A). Murray Terrace in Singapore on an existing conservation block of 14nos. of 3-storey shophouse units has won URA Conservation Heritage Award (Category A).
SDI Architects” Lead Architect, Mr. Philip Lee has more than 30 years as Architect QP. He is also a certified Fire Safety Architectural Registered Inspector and a Design for Safety (DFS) Professional.
SDI has completed a variety of projects since 1997 inception and has grown to be a project-focused/ task-oriented outfit that completes each project singularly well than a company that takes on any project.
In a practical sense, Architecture is about the pursuit of design solutions in the built environment. It is the creative dialogue with the client, understanding the constraints of budget, time, site and context in achieving the design brief.
SDI embarks on each project like a partnership journey with the client. Both the product and process is accorded with care and attention to detail.
SDI believes in balancing technology with creativity. SDI is a studio for the design-minded architects who are trained in multi-tasking to create time for work, family and play. In this way forward, SDI hopes to be multi-dimensional yet effective. With the lessons learnt from Covid-19, we have adapted to be flexible, be open to semi-home office culture and the belief that trust is the basis for building lasting bonds.
ABOUT US
SDI has a certain balance of depth and width. Being a modest size studio outfit, we are grateful for a wealth of experience in our staff strength ranging from those who have journeyed with us for the past 20 years as well as new blood that join us periodically to add new vigour and perspectives.
SDI is BIM ready and has expertise on this since embarking on this upgrading process. BIM is forward looking as it is a tool to anticipate potential clashes between the various building services as well as an integrative tool of modelling to speed up the drawing process.
SDI believes in doing each project well more than doing a lot of projects. We are focused on each development stage of a project whilst keeping a global view to the Client’s overall design objectives. Time and cost are significant factors that drive a project besides working relationship with all parties in a project. SDI treats all parties like good business partners whilst performing the contractual and statutory roles the Architect plays in leading the teams. Being pro-active means planning forward and frequent dialogues with the client, team consultants and authorities to iron out problems before they occur. In this way, we avoid fire-fighting and spend more productive time in design development and smoother project management.
As a result, we are grateful that most of our clients are return clients who have also recommended new clients to us. Architecture is not an administrative job of assembling design tasks to meet a deadline. Simply put, it needs to rise above the mundane to have design well thought through in the face of various constraints like time and cost so that the result is more enduring.
